DOT Codes that Never Made it into the Book

As part of the effort to bring all the data to Occu Collect, I have poured through the government data.  I knew from using Job Browser Pro that there were DOT codes that the Department of Labor had created after finalizing the revised 4th edition of the DOT in 1990, publishing in 1991.  I found 78 entries in the electronic files containing 75 different DOT codes, three with a second Standard Occupational Classification System entry.  I italicized the second entry of the DOT code with the second SOC group.  These DOT codes are not listed in the OALJ DOT library.  U.S. Publishing does not list them in the Specific Occupation Selector.  Here they are:

I have no idea why the files "all capped" quality assurance coordinator, mixing-machine operator, or core-drill operator.

None of these codes have data-people-things coded for significant or not significant.  The electronic files produced no data for that appear in the Selected Characteristics, much less the aptitudes, temperaments, work fields, or MPSMS codes. The only data sources for these occupations would be in the O*NET for occupations that do not have a terminal digit of "9" or the Occupational Outlook Handbook unless the entry is on the page for "data for occupations not covered in detail."

The deeper I get into the weeds of the DOT-SOC swamp, the curiouser and curiouser it gets.

  1. If these DOT codes are not "in the DOT" can they be cited at OHO hearings?

  2. 404.1566(d) - will take administrative notice. The DOT is an example. SSR 00-4p is an elevation of the DOT and promotion of the SCO. The question is not the DOT but instead, is there a reliable basis for the identification of the occupation and the number of jobs. Many of the jobs in the DOT do not exist and OIDAP identifies five. Would you rather the VW identify occupations that exist in reliable numbers or occupations that do not exist in fictitious numbers?
